Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

Deeper Layers Revealed

Waveform Expressionism frequently utilizes an acrylic under painting in order to lay out the composition. In Metamorphosis (slide 1), the blending affects of the acrylic were so desirable that nothing more than an oil sheen was applied in the second pass. Ancestor Spirits (slide 2) adds more oils. Despite the difference in application, both paintings allude to the many “layers” of their subjects.

  • Metamorphosis. 16″ x 20″ acrylic with oil sheen on canvas.
  • Ancestor Spirits. 20″ x 16″ mixed media on canvas.
